34 Rental Units $6.1 Million Investment GROWTH celebrated the completion of The Locks, a transit-oriented housing development in January 2015.
The development was part of a Transit-Oriented Housing initiative with Rock Island County Metropolitan Mass Transit District (Metro). The effort includes a new signature transportation center and market-driven, live-work housing with a river-front view. The Locks is a $6.1 million investment that features 34 rental units that range in size from 615 to 1,974 square feet. This combination of housing, employment, and transit options advances recent federal and state efforts to create vibrant and sustainable communities through the Livable Communities Initiative. |

Below Left: The parking lot in which the Transit Oriented Development was constructed. The parking lot was underutlized, and now shares new investment with housing and transit development totaling $8.2 Million in combined investment. Metro's new District Station, at the corner of 20th Street and 2nd Avenue, provides nearly 2,000 square-feet of enclosed passenger waiting area , a passenger information kiosk, and a 52-inch monitor displaying next bus arrival. The transfer station achieved LEED Gold Status in 2017. |
